Combating Children’s Summer Brain Drain

March 7, 2017 by youthstartup Leave a Comment

Summer months is a good time to spend days learning a totally new activity and explore possibilities in education or the world around us. Unfortunately, some kids may end up a lot of the time on the couch watching TV.  Summer learning does not have to be costly. This summer consider joining DIY, a website where you can find thousands of activities for kids and join an online community where it is safe for kids to read or post comments too.

Summer imposes a temporary brain drain on all students. Keeping children’s minds as well as their bodies active is critical. Educational sites designed for kids to learn creativity, gain confidence, learn important and critical subjects such as STEM, coding or writing is very useful. DIY also offers many opportunities for kids to learn and take part in a challenge.  We particularly liked their program where children can earn patches. Children can become an authority and gain confidence when they give and receive feedback or participate in discussions about their projects.

Creating an account and registration is safe for younger kids as they can use an avatar. The program is supervised as staff mentors offer encouragement. Parents can also get a report of their child’s activities.

Other trending topics include science, Lego, Minecraft, and many inventions. You can join by downloading the app on your iPhone or iPad or you can go to DIY.org

About StartupWonder
StartupWonder is a Bay Area Summer Camp for kids and children in grades 2-12. StartupWonder was founded to encourage youth to practice their creativity in real life problems and determine viability of those creative solutions. We teach STEM and computer programming so students can invent a product or solution, learn to write code and design computer games or Apps.  Student will then investigate how to bring their solution to life and productizing it by writing a business plan. Finally, they have to pitch their startup idea in the Convention where they get feedback and winners receive awards.  Any child can Start Wonder!
